Retinitis Pigmentosa treatment
Cuba Medika has been working in collaboration with the health service in Cuba for nearly a decade, and now offers you the option of treatments for retinitis pigmentosa.
Being the oldest treatment from the clinic service in Cuba, it combines the revitalizing surgery, the electrical stimulation, the ozone application, and other processes as part of a unique therapy that any patient from any continent can benefit from. According to the most recent international literature, retinitis pigmentosa is the fourth leading cause for blindness in the world, and the most frequent hereditary degeneration of the retina.
The therapy
developed by an interdisciplinary team and known as revitalizing surgery, is based on an orbital vascular adipose tissue graft in the suprachoroidal space of the ocular globe, which, by a mechanism of angiogenesis and neuroplasticity, improves the function of the photoreceptors of the active retina.

The treatment
This treatment – it should be emphasized – is customized according to the stage of the illness, the pathological history of the patient and the evaluation of the medical team.
Given the impact of this disease on vision impairment, it is crucial to know more about the medico-social aspects that play an active role in significantly improving the quality and life expectancy of patients, taking into account that this condition remains very complex on a physiopathological point of view. Thus, future treatments will become more complex, and far from being mutually exclusive, will probably complement each other.
Their approach undoubtedly requires the articulation of multidisciplinary approaches.
About Retinitis Pigmentosa
Declared hereditary disease, although it starts indifferently in childhood, adolescence or adulthood, and is not always expressed by similar signs, even in direct consanguinity patients, it however includes common symptoms such as poor night vision, progressive loss of visual field, and the presence of pigments in the back of the eye.
To detect and confirm the disease, the patient is thoroughly examined to establish the stage and thus be prescribed the appropriate treatment.

Among 10,000 patients having received these treatments, 78 % noticed that the disease had stopped progressing, 16 % had an improvement of their vision, and only 6 % did not obtain the expected results.
The clinics also offer treatments for macular degeneration, a variety of retina dystrophies, cataracts, glaucoma, farsightedness and other visual conditions.
